3How do I log in as a user?
Login as either a Teacher or Student. Teacher
requires a password. Student requires no
password.
Note Some computers automatically log in to
Student user at startup.
4How do I log out as a Student so I can log in as
a Teacher?
Log out under the blue apple.

Do not share, post, or change the password. The
teacher user has admin rights.
6How do I open an application?
Dock
The Dock is like the OS 9 Launcher.
Click an application on your Dock to launch it.
7How can I tell which applications are running?
Each open application has a black arrow by the
icon. The system is slowed down by too many open
applications.

You can alter the appearance and location of your
Dock in Dock Preferences.
Student users cannot modify the icons on the
Dock.

9How do I close a window/file?
Red Widget
Click the red widget (button) to close a file or
window. Closing a window does not quit (exit) an
application.

Minimized file
Click the yellow widget to minimize. Click the
minimized icon on the Dock to reopen.
11How do I resize a window?
Green Widget
Click the green widget to make a window larger or
smaller.
12What is the toolbar widget?
Toolbar Widget
Clicking the toolbar widget opens the Toolbar,
which offers shortcuts to frequently visited
places.

How do I quit an application?
Click on the name of the application in the apple
menu to quit (exit).

How do I change System Preferences?
System Preferences are located under the blue
apple. You will find many choices here that used
to be found in the Control Panel.

The name of the alias can be edited.

You may see either of these windows.
Teachers always login in to SASI. Students login
in to CASTOR or POLLUX.

How do I save files to the campus server?
Students and staff are encouraged to save files
to the campus server.

Click on the XP icon on the Dock. A SASIxp server
icon will appear on the Desktop.

disconnect server connections and quit all open
applications.
