The Beginning

• John Elway was born on June 28, 1960 in Port
  Angeles, Washington.
• He moved to California to play football in High
  School
• He also played baseball and basketball.

The College Years

• Stanford never won more than six games in any of
  Elway's three seasons as the starter.
• In his senior season he broke almost every Pac-
  10 record.
• He then became the number one pick of the
  Baltimore Colts in 1983.
• On May 2, 1983 he was traded to the Denver
  Broncos.

The Not So Super Bowl

• A Giant loss mars Elway's first trip to the Super
  Bowl.
• Another trip to the Super Bowl, another blowout
  loss.
• The third Super Bowl is no charm for Elway 49ers
  55, Broncos 10

Finally after ten years Elway makes it back to
the Super Bowl. This time he leads the Broncos to
victory over the Green Bay Packers 31-24

• The Broncos repeat the ride with their second
  consecutive title with a victory over the Atlanta
  Falcons.
• Elway is named Super Bowl MVP for the first time.

The end of an era

• On May 2, 1999 John Elway retires after 16 years
  in the NFL.
• He leaves the game as the winningest quarterback
  of all time with 148 wins.
• In his career he had 47 fourth quarter game
  winning drives.
• He also leaves the game as the greatest
  quarterback ever to play the game.
