Issues 2006-07
Funding and Tuition for Universities and
Community Colleges We need to Make Oregon
Stronger by investing in universities and
community colleges by keeping tuition low,
funding enrollment growth, lowering the
studentfaculty ratio, adequately paying faculty,
and investing in depleting buildings.
Oregon Opportunity Grant Students will be working
to implement the Shared Responsibility Model, a
new financial aid model that will increase
student award amounts and the amount of students
that can receive awards
Access to Student assistance Programs in Reach of
Everyone Expand this critical high school
mentoring program to serve all interested high
schools, to ensure that all students have access
to information about how to apply and qualify for
post-secondary education.

Our campus organizers has been instrumental
helping our student governments ability to reach
its full potential to improve the lives of

in campus, local and state campaigns and has
improved our ability to win campaigns that really

2005-2006 HighlightedAccomplishments
Student Vote 2006 Registered 22,174 students
through the student vote coalition
Legislative Preparation Met with 65 legislators
over the summer and collected and delivered over
10,000 student signatures to the Governor about
his budget.
Student Childcare Program (SCCP) Moved the SCCP
from the Department of Human Services to the
Oregon Student Assistance Commission where
students will have acces to info about the
program through their financial aid office.

Community Colleges Student lobbying increased
Governors proposed budget by 40 million to 428
million
Oregon Opportunity Grant Students won a 76
increase in funding, which will serve all
eligible students and part-time students in the
2nd year of biennium
Tuition Mitigation The Legislature invested
17.25 million in the university system, reducing
the proposed tuition increased 12 to 6 over
the biennium
Oregon Health and Science University Increased
budget by 25 million saving programs and
reducing proposed tuition increases

Oregon Health Plan Returned 1000s of students to
the Oregon Health Plan
Tuition Freeze Won a tuition freeze from
1997-2001, saving every student 600
Pell Grant Participated in national coalition to
increase maximum pell grant
Financial Aid Enhancements 1989, 1991, 1993,
1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2000, 2001, 2003, 2005
Community College and University Funding Worked
to increase funding for CC and OUS every
biennium, winning huge victories in 1999
Student Control of Student Fees Defeated over 26
attempts to curtail students control over student
fees
Student Childcare Program 1 million in
student-parent childcare
Regional Schools Access Initiatives Supported
regional access initiatives for regional schools

CAMPUS ORGANIZER BUDGET
Hired staff on campus to teach students the
needed grassroots skills in order to run
successful campaign is one of the major reasons
we have big victories as students. The resources
they bring are critical to teach real-world
skills not necessarily taught in
