Title: What is the AUP

1
What is the AUP ?
  • Acceptable Use Policy written agreement signed,
by all parents, students, and teachers of
    Northside ISD.
  • Explains the behavior rules for all Internet and
computer use at school the consequences for
    misbehavior.
  • All parents and students given a copy of the
Northside ISD Student Handbook including the AUP
at the beginning of the year.

2
What are the rules for using the Internet at
school?
  • A teacher must be in the room (classroom,
library, lab) at all times while you are using
the Internet. If a teacher is not present, you
    must return to class immediately.
  • Before using the Internet, you must
  • Show their Internet Driver's Licenses to the
    teacher.
  • Tell the teacher the topic they are researching.
  • Put their license on the computer CPU so
    everyone can see it.

3
  • May not type in your own Internet addresses
(URLs) unless they are given to you by the
    teacher
  • May only use kid safe search engines on the Leon
    Springs Elementary Learning Links page.
  • Not allowed to download any documents, games or
    software from the Internet.
  • Not allowed to use software brought from home on
    school computers.
  • Must ask for help before printing (Highlight and
print just the selection, so you don't waste ink).

4
  • If you accidentally find something inappropriate
on a webpage, turn off your monitor and raise
your hand to tell a teacher.
  • Use the Internet for school assignments and
    projects ONLY. (Visiting "entertainment" web
sites, such as World Wide Wrestling,
    Nickelodeon, Pokemon, noneducational games, etc.
    is against the rules).
  • Do not lend your Internet Driver's License to
    another student.

5
  • If you use information or pictures off the
Internet always give credit by listing your
    sources in a bibliography.
  • Remember, your computer use is being watched by
the Northside staff. The district knows the sites
you go to and everything you are doing on the
    computer.
  • Only open, view, change or delete your own
computer work (unless you have specific
permission from a teacher to do otherwise).
  • Email, instant messaging and chat rooms are not
    allowed at school.

Consequences for Misuse
  • The principal investigates all Internet
misbehavior. The adult who discovers a
misbehavior will take the student's license and
put the details in writing. These will be given
    to the principal that day.
  • The principal may
  • Give counseling on proper use
  • Conference with parents and teachers
  • Remove students participation in extracurricular
    activities.
  • Take away your Internet Driver's License for a
    certain period of time

7
  • 1st Offense
  • Hole punched in the top corner of the student's
Internet Driver's License as a reminder to make
all teachers aware of prior misbehavior
  • 2nd Offense
  • Second hole punched and student loses Internet
    Driver's License for three weeks
  • Retake and pass the Internet Driver's License
test to earn back Internet privileges
  • 3rd Offense
