Goal

• Define a common file format to describe Oil Field
  Log Graphics that
• Allows interchange between software systems
• Is simple, easy to construct and easy to read
• Allows for modification of the graphic format on
  receiving system
• Is text with support for internationalization
• Can be used with data in any format
• LAS, DLIS, proprietary database
• Can be shared by oil companies and service
  companies

• Log formats are stored in LogGraphicsML format on
  a web server

Proposal

• Use the eXtensible Markup Language (XML)
• Separate data from graphics
• Combine data and graphics at run-time by a
  viewer
• Refer to data using channel specification
• Define simple objects with clearly defined
  properties using an XML schema which defines the
  text syntax

How it Works

• Divide oil field log graphics into a few simple
  objects such as tracks, curves, grids, etc.
• Organize objects into a tree-like structure
• Define object and property tags in the Schema
• Use these objects and properties in XML files for
  particular log descriptions
