Roads and Growth Nine to Five
  • Marysville, at its heart, lies primarily within
the confines of the Highway 9 and Interstate 5
corridors to the east and west.
  • Within this area, and particularly the UGA,
Marysville has witnessed exponential growth in
    recent years.
  • While primarily residential, growth has also
taken the form of key commercial development.
  • The resultant strain on City infrastructure, and
the transportation component in particular, has
been significant and in many quarters
    worsening.
  • Within unincorporated portions of the UGA,
population is projected to increase by nearly
200 in the next 20 years. The need to keep pace
with this growth therefore cannot be
    overemphasized.

An Emphasis on Corridors
North-South Issues Nine to Five
If State were for whatever reason to be rendered
impassible, there are few viable alternate
routes.
State Avenue
Failure of the Quilceda Creek embankment may
sound extreme, but it does help to illustrate the
fragility of the north-south network.
State Avenue is Marysvilles primary north-south
corridor, and an integral part of the
transportation system.
51st Avenue
Primary alternates include only 51st Avenue -
with its missing link, and 67th Avenue far to
the east.
The north-south roadway network is therefore very
fragile unable to react and adapt to
ever-growing demand. This is perhaps
best-illustrated by example.
Quilceda Creek Crossing
Missing Link

Whether brought about by catastrophe (flood,
earthquake) or growingly under-capacity roadway
segments (100th-116th), resultant over-burdening
of State Avenue will not be sustainable.

What to do Nine to Five
A Truism Bad Roads Inadequate Infrastructure
Disincentive to Development
Growth and development will however continue
if not here then elsewhere. (perhaps in close
proximity)
Our ability to keep pace and to proactively
address issues, such as these, from Nine to
Five will therefore be key in allowing
Marysville to maintain itself as the vital
community we enjoy today.
