Title: Student Showcase Night

1
Student Showcase Night
  • A final exam option (worth the same as a written
    test 100 points)
  • You will host a seminar on one topic. You will
create lesson plan, teach and assess your guests
    learning.
  • You will be required to bring 2 guests.
  • Student Showcase Night will be from 630 to
800pm. Guests will rotate through a minimum of
    4 student showcase seminars

2
How to get started
  • 1. Work with a partner to choose a topic to
  • Teach (something from Language Arts or
American History). Topic sign-ups are first
come, first served sign-ups to be completed by
    May 31.
  • 2. Once you have an accepted seminar topic,
review and become an expert in the field! Use
your spiral, textbook, library resources, and the
    Internet.
  • 3. Develop a lesson plan to present information
in 15 minutes. The lesson must include Visual,
    Hands-on activity, Assessment
  • 4. Practice, practice, practice! We will want to
see your lesson in action BEFORE showcase night.

3
REQUIREMENTS (Think about these BEFORE you
choose to do Seminar Night)
  • 1. You must have 2 guests attend! You will make
an invitation for them and must return it with
    their seminar choices and signature.
  • 2. You must have a visual hands-on activity
    with your lesson.
  • 3. If you no-show, it drastically impacts your
grade, and you must take the 100 question social
    studies final exam.

  • Student Showcase Night
  • Mrs. Milling and Mrs. Kangass 8th Grade
    Humanities Final Option
  • Wednesday, June 14, 2006 630PM 800PM
  • I understand that this is a choice I am making to
be involved in the Student Seminar Night and,
    thus,
  • replace my social studies final exam. I also
understand that if I do not show up to teach my
    seminar I will
  • have to take the 100-point exam the next day!
Still I am excited about this opportunity
  • Student Name Partner
  • Proposed Topic (idea for hands-on activity
    assessment)
  • 1st choice
  •
  • 2nd choice
  • Parent Agreement
  • My student has explained the finals option of
    Student Showcase
  • Night and I am thrilled they have chosen to get
    involved. I
  • understand this will replace the final exam test,
    unless my
  • student is not able to make it to the Showcase
    evening (for any
  • reason) they will have to take the written exam
    the next day. I
