• The story is set in both England and war-torn
  Africa and is told from three different
  viewpoints.
• Matt leaves England to work as a clown in Africa
  trying to improve the lives of young African
  children.
• His sister Olly waits anxiously for him in
  England and Hero is a swallow making a perilous
  annual migration to Africa.

Year Five have studied the novel and used it in
many different activities and projects.
First of all we looked at the beginning then
wrote our own story openings using the book as an

We then looked at the story and thought about
which parts we could use as examples for writing
instructions.There were many examples, how to
be a clown.. How to make friends with your
garden bird and
funniest of all, how to paint your toe nails

We were dying to show Mrs Evans and Mrs Fishwick
all our work, so we put together a presentation
where people read poems, gave instructions,
played The 5 Corners and many more activities!!
