School of Ministries is a comprehensive teaching
and training programme for church leaders and
others who want to have a sound Biblical
knowledge and be equipped in their ministry in
the church
About SoM
Uganda

SoM was started in 1990 by Peter Butt, based in
New Community Church, Southampton, UK. The aim
was to provide in-depth foundational training in
all areas of Theology, Practical Leadership
Skills and Christian life to church leaders who
cannot access Bible School.

There are currently 36 modules, each of 10 hours
teaching (5 x 2hrs sessions)

SoM teachers travel to various centres around the
world where a local leader draws together other
leaders from that region.
How We Work
Sometimes this is just for one week when 2
modules are covered. In other places we spend 4
weeks covering 8 modules.

In this way a full training programme is carried
out over a period of a few years. The numbers
can vary from 25 - 500.

Students who compete the course, including module
assignments, receive a graduation Certificate.
How We Work
At the end of each module there is an optional
assignment to test that students have grasped the
basics of the material covered.

In many places local leaders have also been
trained to teach the material.

Financing The Work
To run a school for a week in a Developing
Country cost 500. Many churches (and some
individuals) in the UK have recognised the value
of SoM training for leaders in these countries
who have little access to any other form of
training. And they commit to sponsor a school
each year.

The Work Is Growing
In Developing Countries there has been a real
hunger for SoM training for church leaders.

• Several church networks now use SoM as their
  principle means of leadership training
• During 2008 over 50 courses were run in Africa
  and Asia

We regularly receive inquiries about starting new
training centres in various countries There is a
real need for more teachers, and for churches to
catch the vision of sponsoring a weeks school
each year.
