10.5 Complex Fractions

• Complex fractions have fractions in the
  numerator, denominator, or both.
• When working with complex fractions, treat the
  numerator as one problem and the denominator as
  another problem.
• Simplify the numerator and denominator separately
  so there is one fraction in the numerator and one
  in the denominator.
• Then use the division of fractions property to
  simplify.
• Invert the fraction in the denominator, and
  multiply it by the fraction in the numerator.
• If the problem is an equation, (it has an equal
  sign), cross multiply to solve for the variable.

• Graphs are only related to equations.
• Examples 1 and 2 were expressions because they do
  not have an equal sign.
• Therefore, you can only simplify and cannot solve
  for x.
• Example 3 has an equal sign, therefore you can
  solve for x.
• Equation 3 is linear and will graph a line.
