Title: CIM264B Flash MX 2004

1
CIM264B Flash MX 2004
  • Week 1

2
Movie Clip Symbol
  • Introduced with Flash 4, most flexible and
    powerful symbol type.
  • Equivalent in many ways to a document within a
document. It has its own independent timeline
and canvas and can even contain other movie
clips. A clip contained within another clip is
    called a nested clip.
  • Similar to a Graphic Symbol except that it plays
independently of the main timeline (if the main
timeline stops, movie clip symbols continue to
    play).

3
Movie Clip Symbol
  • Requires only a single keyframe on the Main
Timeline to play while animated graphic symbols
require multiple frames in the Main Timeline.
  • Movie Clip vs Flash Movie
  • Movie Clip can be thought of as a mini movie
    placed in the library
  • Flash Movie entire exported file may include
multiple Movie Clips, Graphics, Buttons, and
    other elements.

Movie Clip Symbol
  • Can contain multiple layers, graphic symbols,
button symbols, other movie clip symbols, sounds,
    animation, ActionScripting
  • Disadvantage Can only be previewed in the
Library, Control ? Test Movie, or publishing the
    final movie.
  • Effects can be applied to Movie Clip Instances on
    the Stage.
  • By default, they 'play' independently of the
current timeline, and will loop indefinitely,
unless they contain Flash 'Actions' that instruct
    them to do otherwise.

5
Movie Clip Symbol
  • You create the movie clip once, and then you
change the attributes ( such as scale, alpha,
skew, rotation) of each instance on the Stage.
  • Movie clips can now act as buttons by adding
    ActionScripting to them.
  • By replacing much of the animation in a scene
with independent clips, the main timeline of the
    movie becomes less cluttered

6
Movie Clip Symbol
  • As each clip has its own timeline, any edits made
only affect the specific clip, while actionscript
enables you to maintain exact control over the
    animation.
  • Movie Clips can be reused as many times as you
like within a movie, without having an adverse
impact on the size of the file when it's
    published

7
Movie Clip Symbol
  • Symbol Types Review
  • Graphic symbols are used for static images and
to create reusable objects for your movie or
animation that are tied to a timeline.
  • Button symbols create interactive buttons in the
movie that respond to mouse clicks, rollovers or
    other actions.
  • Movie clip symbols create reusable pieces of
animation. Movie clips play in their own timeline
independent of the main movie's timeline.
