Cold / hot forming
  • Today there is no difference in the quality
between hot and cold formed springs, provided,
that the cold formed springs are heat treated
after coiling to stress release them (tempering)
  • Cold coiled springs have the advantage, that
there are no tooling costs and you can make small
quantites on a reasonable price level.
  • Warm coiled springs need toolings, due to
fluctuations in temperature of the heating and
cooling they need a bigger tolerance range, cold
coiled springs can be better produced to the
exact specification. Only in big batches warm
    coiling is economical.

Barrel springs / Minibloc springs
12
Barrel spring / Minibloc spring
  • Obviously the minibloc and the barrel
spring do not have the same characteristics. The
minibloc has due to its conical wire and
progressive springs rate a comfortable beginning
and reaches the full force only at the end. The
barrel spring with linear wire is stiffer from
the beginning and definitely reaches the same
    force.
  • Especially on bad roads the minibloc spring
is very susceptible to breaking in the thinner
ends. Therefore the lifetime of a barrel spring
is up to three times higher than a minibloc
    springs.
