4Preparation
Brainstorm with entire class various types of
structures people use for personal shelter and
why they vary. Have available pictures to
stimulate discussion. Divide into groups and
using atlas/globe each group chooses a place in
the world to investigate shelters. Be sure
various geographical/cultural areas are
represented.
5Process Tips Divide into groups of 3 or 4. Each
group should have a primary keyboarder, recorder
and researcher. Materials
- One computer with internet connection per group
- Atlas or globe showing geographical features
(one per group)

- Project length 2-45 minute sessions
- Tasks
- Each group will investigate on-line personal
structures of geographical area chosen/assigned.
- The group will record materials used, size,
shape and any pertinent cultural considerations.
Emphasis will be placed on reasons for above
stated categories. - Each group will present to the class results
of investigation. This will be a multimedia
presentation using the program of the groups
choice. -
7Module Classification Modeling-using WWW to
investigate and multimedia to present completed
project Articulation-students must present final
project in prepared form to class. Reflection-majo
r goal of lesson is to compare/contrast why
certain materials/shapes/customs are present in
various parts of the world Exploring-using the
WWW to obtain information needed to complete
project. Groups foster brainstorming leading to
further investigations.

investigations.
9Evaluation The evaluation for all projects will
be drawn from rubric designed by the teacher on
personal performance and completed projects.
This rubric will be presented to the students
before lesson begins.
- Evaluation will be
- Individual grade based on participation in
group project. Grade will be based 60 on
teacher observation and 40 on evaluation by
group members. - Group grade based on finished product. This
grade will be 80 teacher and 20 evaluation of
entire class.
