Interview Questions
  • Why emergency medicine?
  • Why here?
  • What don't you like about emergency medicine?
  • Are you willing to leave Texas?
  • If your best friend were here, what would he say
    about you?

11
Interview Questions
  • If you won the lottery today what would you buy
    yourself tomorrow.
  • What is the most important lesson you have
    learned in your life?
  • Teach me something non-medical in 5 minutes.
  • What is the craziest thing that you have ever
    done?
  • Think of ANY question..... now ask it to
    yourself and respond to it.

Pearls of Wisdom
  • Get applications in early.
  • Don't schedule your "favorite" programs too late
    because you'll be fatigued.
  • Book interviews as soon as you get the invite
  • Fly Southwest or sign up for frequent flier
programs- they're free and worth it
  • Always book the cheapest rental car available-
it's never available when you get there and you
    will get a free upgrade

13
Pearls of Wisdom
  • Have alot of questions ready, just remember there
are stupid questions (ones that could easily be
    answered on the website)
  • Go to the night before event if possible
  • You're always being evaluated by someone be it
the PD, chair, resident, or program
coordinator(who may have more pull than anyone)
  • Be positive and energetic.
  • Know the strengths and weaknesses of the program
    before you interview

14
Pearls of Wisdom
  • Attend the night before events if you have time
because it's the best way to get to know the
    residents.
  • Go to the night before function and try to gauge
if you fit with the program. Ultimately, programs
may be very well known with great reputations,
but the residents can be VERY "quirky".
