Lets think of different types weve done so far.

Now we are going to learn to write letters!
3There are different types of letters you can
write.
Sometimes your parents will send or get a
business letter in the mail. This type of letter
is very formal or professional. Did you know that
even an invitation to your birthday party is a
letter? Today we are going to learn how to write
a friendly letter. Sometimes this is called a
personal letter.
Do you know what a friendly letter is?
4What is a friendly letter?
- A friendly letter is a letter you write to
- A friend
- A family member
- Anyone you know, or
- Some one you would like to know
You can write anything you want in this type of
letter just make sure youre being
FRIENDLY!

- The Heading
- The Greeting
- The Body
- The Closing
- The Signature

- The heading is where you put the date.
- Sometimes if the letter is more formal you can
add your address.

- The greeting means hello. This is where you
write Dear _________, and write the name of the
person your writing to. - There are 2 types of greetings which well talk
about in a minute.

- Formal Use when youre writing someone you
havent talked to in a while -
- Informal Use when your writing a good friend or
close family member.
Like Dear Aunt Bonnie, or Good Afternoon Mr.
Right,
Like Whats up David, or Hi Mom,

- The Body is where you write information or
questions to the person youre writing.
Hi, How are you? I am really glad we got to
play together this weekend. I had a lot of fun
with you. Next week do you want to play at my
house? See you later.

- In the closing you end the letter.
- There are many ways to close a letter. Well
look at those in a minute.

- The signature is where you sign your name. It
goes under the closing. - We will get to use CURSIVE when we sign our
name!

when writing letters.
Always remember...
- Commas
- and
- Capitalization

- Capitalize the first word and all nouns in the
greeting
Like Dear Friend, or Hi Mom
- Capitalize the first word in the closing

- It cost 37 cents to mail a regular sized letter
- You cant mail a letter without a stamp
- This is so the post man knows you paid to send
the letter

There are hundreds of different stamps you can
buy. Many people collect stamps as a
hobby.

envelope and seal it
You can take a trip to the POST OFFICE!
At the post office they divide up all the mail in
world and make sure its sent to the right person.
