2WSON Signaling Extensions
- Provide extensions to Generalized Multi-Protocol
Label Switching (GMPLS) signaling for control of
Wavelength Switched Optical Networks (WSON). - Changes from 02
- Added requirements for support of distributed
wavelength assignment applications/optimizations. - Generalized Wavelength Set Metric TLV for
additional use scenarios/applications. - Added explanatory text on three new
applications/optimizations.
3New WSON Signaling Requirements
- Distributed Wavelength Assignment Support
- Backward Blocking Reduction
- In WSON without wavelength converters, backward
blocking due to resource contentions is the
predominant blocking contribution, when traffic
load is low or highly-dynamic as when lightpath
restoration takes place Giorgetti08. - Efficient Wavelength Converter Assignment
- When a WSON has some nodes with wavelength
converters the efficient use of these scarce
resources is desired Andriolli06. - Shared Mesh Wavelength Assignment
- The reuse of protection bandwidth is desirable in
some applications. In WSONs we need to consider
wavelength selection in this process Ji. -

6Next Steps
- Adopt as a WG document ?
- Work to finalize signal characterization
- (working with ITU-T on this)
- Assess demand for distributed bidirectional
lightpath assignment using different wavelengths
on different directions. - Revise encodings as necessary
