Who was the planet named after?
  • Venus is named after the goddess of love and
beauty, Venus for the Romans, Aphrodite for the
Greeks, and Ishtar for the Babylonians.

3
Who discovered the planet?
  • The discovery of Venus is not solely credited to
any one, however many believe it was discovered
by cavemen who looked upon the night sky and saw
    the planet.

4
How does Venus look?
  • Venus is the brightest planet, therefore a person
can spot it in the sky using only the naked eye.
  • With its thick atmosphere and many clouds,
astronomers can only see a smooth, orange-ish
    cloud covering the planet.

5
What is it composed of?
  • Venuss atmosphere is mainly carbon dioxide
  • Its clouds are mostly made of droplets of
    sulfuric acid
  • Its surface contains many volcanoes and broad
    plains made from lava flows

6
Venuss Core
  • Scientists believe Venuss core consists of a
liquid metal similar to Earths however no
seismic data has been found to confirm it,
possibly because of the planets slow rotation.

7
Venuss Terrain
8
How far is it from the sun?
  • Venus is the second planet from the sun
  • About 0.72 AU away from the star

9
How long is its orbit?
  • Venuss orbit is about 224.7 Earth days or about
    7.5 months.

10
How long is one day?
  • Surprisingly, Venuss day is longer than its year
  • It completes one rotation in about 8 Earth months

11
Haw far is it from Earth?
  • As of 939 p.m. CDT, Venus is currently
    74,214,000 miles away from Earth.

Venuss path from Earth.
12
How many moons?
  • Venus has no moons or any other natural
    satellites.

13
Interesting Facts
