The Purpose of CEPT

• The Clinical and Educational Planning Task Force
  was established to address the following issue
• The current model of a housestaff centric
  hospital
• with reliance on housestaff coverage for all
• Department of Medicine patients is no longer a
• viable option.
• Immediate action must be taken.

Task Force Goal

• To adopt a patient centric model of patient care
  which
• necessitates changes in our work force
  composition,
• size, and schedule to meet the increased patient
  demand,
• decreased availability of house staff while
  preserving
• education, improving patient care, and improving
  quality of
• work life for our faculty and staff.

Task Force Deliverables

• Develop a recommendation to address inpatient bed
  coverage, faculty staffing, BWF bed capacity, and
  the BWF strategic plan.
• Tie into other planning work occurring at the
  Hospital
• Coordinate all DOM efforts regarding these issues
  including other DOM and BWH committees.
• Test recommendation in early Spring of 2005 to be
  able to fully implement by July 2005.
• Implement immediate actions as necessary -
  including transfer policy.

Project Description

• The steering committee has been working with the
  task force to come up with possible options to
  solve the issue
• The task force will meet each month to review
  options and solidify a final recommendation
• Recommendation will be presented to DOM and
  Hospital management
