Description
Benefits

The use of solid state relays eliminate contact
problems currently associated with mechanical
relays. The survey results will provide a basis
for projects to determine if solid state relays
are applicable for the given application. Projects
such as ISS, Shuttle, and OSP would benefit as
vendors for mechanical relays continue to
discontinue their space products.
Solid state relays continue to increase in
efficiency and power handling capabilities but
are not yet proven for critical space flight
applications. This task will survey the
contractor base to determine the use and
difficulties of using solid state relays in
various applications. The survey will also
collect solid state relay data from vendors and
characterize the readiness level of the various
Solid State Relays.
