2What is Poetry?
- Its a form of art.
- A poem is a short piece of imaginative writing,
of a personal nature and laid out in lines. - A poem is something unique to its author.
3Types of Poetry
Tanka
Haiku
Free Verse
Limerick
Concrete
Narrative
Imagery
Sonnets
4Haiku
- A Japanese poem with 17 syllables.
- It is split into three lines.
- The first line has 5 syllables. The second has 7
syllables.The third has 5 syllables.
- Example
- Green and speckled legs,
- Hop on logs and lily pads
- Splash in cool water.
5Limerick
- A short form of poetry known for being funny and
simple to write. - Five lines that form a mood, picture, or feeling.
- 1st and last lines have 7 to 10 syllables, and
rhyme with each other. - 3rd and 4th lines have 5-7 syllables and rhyme
with each other.
- Example
- Limerick quality varies a lot
- Some are clever, and others are not.
- Some are hits, others miss
- Some are boring like this...
- And the worst ones of all have no plot!
6Tanka
- A type of Haiku.
- Focuses on nature and season, but is a bit longer
than the Haiku. - Has lots of expression and musicality.
- Consists of 5 lines for a total of 31 syllables.
- The syllables per line are according to the
pattern 5-7-5-7-7.
- Example
- Way up in the tree, There is lots and lots to
see, Trees have lots of leaves. That fall down
during autumn time, It brings me lots of fun
things.
7- Clerihews are a type of Free Verse. They are
funny poems you write about specific people. - Two examples
- The enemy of Harry Potter was a scheming
plotter.I can't tell you what he's called I'd
be ashamed to name "he who must not be named. - N'Sync stink. Their music hurts my ears. I
much prefer Britney Spears.
Free Verse
Free Verse has no special form. You are the
author and decide if the lines should rhyme or
not.

8A group of four lines is called a STANZA. The
ballad stanza has a rhyme at the end of line 2
and 4.

9Whats the longest poem?
- Pieces of Hope to the Echo of the World
- By Patrick Huet
- It is the longest poem in the world according to
the Guinness Book of Records. - Mr. Huet spent a month-and-a-half composing 7,547
verses and 994.1 meters. - It is written on a roll of fabric that stretches
to almost one kilometer on a car-race track in
southeast France.

I get.Cause homework is boring.It makes me
