direction, and to develop a personal relationship
with our Creator. - To provide leadership that will ensure that the
Word of God is paramount within our worship,

safe, nurturing, Christ-centered environment to
strengthen their spiritual development and
everlasting faith in God. - To accept responsibility as active members within
the church to the development of our
mission, ministry, worship and stewardship. - To demonstrate how we love others and are

5FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF TEKAMAH
- OUR HISTORY
- 1869-1919
- Organized in 1869 eight original members. Mrs.
Hannah Wallace, Mrs. Abbie Cochran and her
mother, Mrs. Goodwin, Casper K. Conger and his
wife and three daughters. - On Christmas Day, 1870, the foundation of the
church was laid and during that winter, the house
was enclosed and seated. - In the summer of 1868, a steam boat on the
Missouri river was wrecked a short distance below
Decatur and the citizens of Tekamah bought the
bell with the understanding that it should be
given to the first meeting house built. Our
church was the first meeting house.

- OUR HISTORY (Cont)
- 1869-1919 (Cont)
- First pastor - Jeremiah B. Long 1870-1873
- The First Church served the community of Tekamah
for 103 years before it was bought by the United
Methodist Church and burned in a controlled fire
by the Tekamah Fire Department. The lot is now
used by the Methodist Church for parking. - During the pastorate of the Rev. R.M. L. Braden
(1889 to 1890) a second church was erected - In 1912, a lot was purchased in the east part of
the city at 1016 K street where a manse was
erected
7FIRST PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH OF TEKAMAH
- OUR HISTORY (Cont)
- 1920-1975
- In 1948, a Quonset hut was erected on the back of
the church lot. This was used as office space
until 1965 construction began. The space was
divided into three rooms by the Mariners in
1962. This provided a Pastors Study, Church
offices, and a large meeting room - In June 1962, a building committee was appointed
and an architect engaged.

the back of the church property. - The building progressed during the year and was
dedicated in May, 1966. It included the Pastors
Study, the Church Secretarys office, three
Sunday school rooms (one of the rooms on the

- The Purpose of LOGOS

embracing Christ as Lord and personal Savior - To develop intelligent, active and loyal
membership and leadership in the church - To give worthwhile study, wholesome recreation,
personal relationships, and opportunities for
service all bound up in a true Christian
context - And to develop the kind of Christians who are
able and willing to communicate their faith and
to assume personal responsibility in assisting in
the building of Gods kingdom on earth.

- OUR SERVICE (Cont)
- LOGOS (Cont)
- What Happens at Logos?
- The following four (4) parts combine to create
the structure or atmosphere in which the
theology and practice of Christian
relationships can happen - Bible Study - Bible study is the focus of the
program. It is based on the conviction that the
Christian faith, as presented in the Scriptures,
needs to be taught to young people so they may be
challenged and nurtured towards a spiritual
maturity. - Worship Skills and Choir - Worship is our primary
act of service to God. Through singing,
instruments, and drama, our choir provides an
all-important opportunity for young people to
actively participate in worship.

- LOGOS (Cont)
- What Happens at Logos? (cont)
- Recreation and Crafts - Thus says the Lord of
hosts . . .And the streets of the city shall be
full of boys and girls playing in its streets.
(Zechariah 85). The goal of Recreation and
Crafts time is to have great fun at the expense
of no one!! It is here that the children and
youth get to practice Christian principles that
they are learning through crafts, games, and
activities designed to cover a broad range of
interests. - Family Time - But if we are living in the light
of Gods presence, just as Christ does, then we
have wonderful joy and fellowship with each
other. (1st John 17). The goal of Family Time
is to provide a joyous intergenerational
celebration over a shared meal as we experience
being the family of God. This helps provide a
camp-like experience, and gives our children the
opportunity to practice gratitude, respect,
appreciation for others. . . and a generous dose
of laughter.
