Title: How To Design Your Own Webpage

1
How To Design Your Own Webpage
  • Created Especially For You By
  • Amanda E. Stricklin

2
Where to Begin
  • Choose a free Web Building site.
  • Examples of free Web Building Sites Angelfire,
Geocites, Tripod, Lycos, College Club, etc.

3
Step 1 Signing Up
  • Become a MemberYou must be a member to use
Angelfire. To get started, just click the "Sign
Up" button on the Angelfire homepage and fill out
    the required fields
  • Come On In...Once you have a membership, just
click the Log In button, type your member name in
the directory field, and enter your password.

4
Step 2 Planning
  • Think about the components of your site, such as
the layout, text, images, and overall feel.
  • Some things that you may want to include on you
    webpage

5
Step 3 Getting Started
  • Log in to your Angelfire account
  • Type your Lycos Network member name in the Member
Name field, and your password in the Password
    field, and click Log In.
  • Enter the Web Shell

6
Step 4 Files vs. Directories
  • A directory is like a "cabinet" where your files
are stored. A directory can contain many files.
  • A file is like a "piece of paper" that could be a
page of HTML, or could be an image, or some other
    item
  • Example

7
Step 5 Index.html
  • The index.html file is the first page people will
see when they type in your URL.
  • When you type in www.angelfire.com/film/name
    the browser looks for
    www.angelfire.com/film/name/index.html

8
Step 6 Beginning With Basic Editor
  • Highlight the index.html file, and click the Edit
button on the Web Shell toolbar.
  • You'll be given several choices as to the layout
and content of your page, using our Basic Editor
    Standard template.
  • Once your choices have been selected, click the
Save button. This is where the fun begins!

9
Step 6 Contd
  • Example
  • If you're going to use any images on your site,
you'll need to put them in your Angelfire
    directory.
  • The Web Shell's convenient uploading feature can
    be used for this.

10
Step 7 Uploading Images
  • Most decide to store their images in the images
    directory that Angelfire provides.
  • Once the directory is opened, you can use our
Uploader to copy your images into this directory
    in your Angelfire account
  • Once you've selected all of your images, click
the Upload button, and the files will be copied
    into your images directory.

11
Step 8 Adding Pages
  • To create a new file, type the new file name into
the Name field (don't forget the .html
extension!), and click the Create button.
  • Select your choices and hit the Submit button.
You can then use the Basic Editor to customize
    your new page.

12
Step 9 Links
  • For visitors to navigate your site, you'll need
to link all of your files together.
  • If you wish to add links, you'll need to type the
URLs, or web addresses, for the links in the text
    boxes.

13
Step 10 Saving
  • Save as often as possible!
  • Just click the Save button at the top or bottom
of the editor screen. Once you click it, you will
be brought back to the main Web Shell screen.
  • Once information is erased, there is no way for
    Angelfire to retrieve it.

14
Step 11 Updating
  • Updating your site is no different than the first
time you worked on the files.
  • Log in with your username and password, then just
highlight the file you wish to work on and click
    the Edit button.
  • Don't forget to save your work.

15
Step 12 Getting Help
  • When questions arise, please feel free to contact
the Angelfire (or other Web Builder) customer
    service department.
