Summary
  • Introduce the third and fourth grade students at
    Romona Elementary School to the ownership of a
    personal laptop.
  • Personal laptops for students is the next level
    of technological advancement for Romona.
  • Students will remain advanced technologically in
    order to effectively succeed in high school,
    college, and career.
  • Teachers must grow technologically.

Goals
  • To increase computer use in the classroom.
  • To familiarize students with the use of a laptop.
  • To give students a sense of ownership and
    responsibility for expensive equipment.
  • To move teachers into a new technological realm.

Currently at Romona
  • iMac lab equipped with 27 computers.
  • One laptop cart with 25 iBooks.
  • iMac lab in the library/media center with 10
    computers.
  • 3-4 computers in every classroom.
  • Special services teachers and administrators
    equipped with personal iBook laptops.
  • Technology training throughout the year available
    for teachers.
  • Technology Club available at certain times for
    students.

Justification
  • Romona is located in a highly academically
    competitive demographic.
  • 99 of Romonas students will attend New Trier
    High School and go on to the countrys top
    Colleges and Universities.
  • 100 of the students have computers at home.
  • Romona is technologically equipped, and this is
    the next step forward.
  • Romonas tech budget is not able to finance this
    project at this time.

  • Technology plan revisions.
  • Technology and 3rd and 4th grade curriculum
    revisions.
  • School Board and parent conferences.

Timeline
  • September/ October 2005- Meetings with
    School Board and parents. Revise technology
    plan and curricula. Secure funding.
  • October/ November 2005- Faculty and staff
    training.
  • December 2005- Student training.
  • January 2006- Introduce laptops.
  • Beginning January 2006- Ongoing evaluation of
    laptops in the classroom.

  • 147 12 iBook Macintosh Laptops. 161,000.00.
  • Faculty and staff training- 600.00 for 4
    sessions by trained Apple trainers.
  • Tech Staff on-going training for faculty-
    1230.00
  • Laptop maintenance per/year (hardware, software,
    support)- 5000.00.

    organizations in researching a top school and
    district.
