KRISTEN BROADYBiographical Profile
  • In 2002, I graduated from Alcorn State
University with a Bachelor of Arts in Criminal
Justice. I obtained my Master of Business
Administration at Jackson State University in
August 2006. Currently, I am pursuing my Doctor
of Philosophy in Business with a focus on
    Economics at Jackson State University.
  •
  • I was introduced to the field of economics at
the age of 17 while working in commissioned
sales. My desire to formally study economics led
me to take the GMAT for admission to the MBA
program at Jackson State University. Many of my
courses and activities over the past few years
were in the fields of statistics and economics
including my position as Operations Supervisor
with Laidlaw Educational Services, work with the
Tiger Global Marketplace, and assisting in the
development of 1 Mississippi. I believe that
I have the qualities to be a competent researcher
and teacher.  I am an attentive person and often
think in a contemplative way about various issues
of practical importance in the field of business.
In economics, being able to identify consumption
and expenditure patterns and relationships that
are not obvious to others is one of my greatest
strength. This will prove very valuable because
an essential part of being a researcher and
teacher is to perceive the balance between theory
    and practice.
  •
  • Prior work experience and education have shaped
and molded me into the person I am today. They
have guided me through my undergraduate work at
Alcorn State University and to my current
matriculation in the Ph.D. program at Jackson
State University. I chose the Ph.D. program at
Jackson State University because it is a
historically black university with an accredited
program of study. The low student teacher ratio
provides students with the attention they need
    and deserve. Professors and dissertation
committee members have a real interest in the
    success of Ph.D. students.

KRISTEN BROADYTeaching Philosophy
  • As a Business Economics teachers assistant, I
believe my role in the classroom is to facilitate
the flow of information and new concepts in the
field of economics. Students are encouraged to
participate in classroom discussions in order to
relate economic concepts to real world
situations. I relate economic theory to current
    global situations.  Assignments and test
questions are related to current local and
national news. In order to provide further
    opportunities for participation, students are
allowed to aid in the decision making processes
related to homework assignments and activities
which provide extra points. Through my in-class
presentations and small group tutoring sessions I
hope to cultivate logical reasoning, aid in the
attainment of reasonable habits of thought, and
prepare students to function in and understand
the world economy. My objective is to help my
    students develop economic problem-solving skills.
To this end they are provided with a diversity
of classroom presentations, from which homework
assignments, study guides and tests, all geared
toward problem solving, are developed. It is my
goal that these methods will provide them with a
    mechanism for critical thinking.
