2What is Life Education?
- The Roman philosopher Horace said always
remember that new vessels will for long retain
the taste of what is first poured into them.
Life Education modules aim to reach children from
their very first lessons, teaching them some
basic but sometimes, to them, mysterious
principles. - Life Educations aim is to give the young people
of New Zealand, through positive health-based
education, the knowledge and skills to raise
their awareness to live a fulfilling and healthy
life. - It is a health resource that links into the
Health and Physical Education Curriculum.
3What does Life Education teach?
- You are unique there never was, is now or ever
will be again another you. - The human body is magnificent All of the body
systems, digestive, circulatory, sensory, operate
on a delicate equilibrium and the body needs
plenty of fresh food, oxygen and water to stay
healthy. Where do these things come from ? We
need only to look at mountains, rivers, lakes and
forests to see how nature provides for us. Our
planet is full of beauty we must look after our
internal and external environment. - We need to support and respect each other Our
happy existence on this planet depends on our
healthy respect for one another. If I am unique,
then so is the person sitting next to me. If I
am special, so are my school mates. If my body
systems are miraculous, then so are theirs.
Therefore if I learn to respect myself, I can
respect others too.
4Life Education Delivery
- We have eighteen programmes, delivered to over
200,000 school children each year, by fully
registered teachers, in mobile classrooms - Our educators have x factor
5Who is Harold?
- Harold the giraffe is the Trusts mascot. He
demonstrates what happens when things go
according to plan and what happens when they
dont. - Childrens responses show that Harold has a huge
impact in reinforcing the messages of the
programmes. - Harold was chosen because he stands tall. That
is what we want all children to do.
