• In this chapter we will primarily focus on
  cellular networks for voice services.
• We first start off with a description of a
  generic cellular system (based on first
• generation cellular systems) and then proceed to
  discuss the new digital systems
• that have recently come into service. Before we
  describe the second generation
• systems, we will discuss access technologies and
  show how the new systems
• differ in their architectures based upon the
  multiplexing mode used. We end our
• chapter with a discussion on traffic engineering,
  spectral efficiency and how
• system capacity can be calculated and expanded.
