Analysis
19
What worked
  • Focusing on a single student versus teaching the
    unit to the entire class.
  • Modifying the unit plan after assessing the
    student.
  • Modifying the Career Kokua evaluation.

20
What didnt work
  • Writing the unit before meeting the students.
  • Taking data during the students presentation to
    the class was difficult.
  • Bridging the information learned to relevant
    situations in the students life.
  • Data sheet may not be a true reflection of what
    the student learned.

21
Goals and Outcomes
22
Outcomes
  • Gain a better understanding of the student.
  • Through the implementation of this unit, I got to
know the student a lot better. I learned about
her likes and dislikes, as well as what she does
    outside of school.

23
Outcomes
  • Gain more practice in writing a standards-based
    unit.
  • I feel I became more familiar with the process of
writing a standards unit. However, I still feel
    I need more practice.

24
Outcomes
  • Gain more experience in implementing a
    standards-based unit.
  • I feel I became more familiar with implementing a
unit. However, implementing another unit will
allow for more practice and experience.

25
Outcomes
  • Gain insights into how implementing a
standards-based unit would benefit the student.
  • I felt the student gained a better understanding
of how her strengths and interests will play a
role in determining what she will do after high
    school.

26
Outcomes
  • Gain insights into how implementing a
standards-based unit would benefit the student.
  • The unit also gave the student more opportunities
to practice her writing skills and it expanded
    her vocabulary.

Future Directions for my Professional Development
28
Future Directions
  • This year served as a great introduction and
helped lay the foundation for the future. I hope
to use this and apply it to the next unit I write
    and implement.
  • For the next unit I write, I hope to use the
community as the context of the unit. This will
hopefully be more relevant to real life for the
    students.
