    students)
  • Using each students family photos or list of
family member names have each student answer the
following questions. Use hand over hand
    manipulation or independent manipulation,
depending on their ability, to touch and count
each picture. Document their answers in the
    anecdotal notes.
  • How many people live in your family?
  • How many brothers and sisters?
  • How many pets?

  • ART
  • Create a family tree- Paint the
  • students arm and hand brown or gray.
  • Print this on paper. Using the provided names
  • paint dots (leaves, pinecones, etc) on the tree
to present the different members. The dots can be
    painted in colors that
  • represent the time of year such as green for
summer or spring, multicolored for fall, or
    pinecones for winter.
  • Label each dot with a family members name and
relationship. Describe the activity and the
relationships to each child during the art
    project.
  • Create a family album - Using the pictures sent
in glue the pictures onto paper in book form with
each page labeled for family members. Use
different textures on each page to represent each
family member for a multi-sensory experience and
for those students that have visual impairments.
Use the family home or home setting as the cover.
Describe the activity and the relationships to
each child during the art project.

them (mother, father, sisters, brothers, other
    family members, pets)
  • How are the families the same and different?
  • Set up a table in the school for a survey
    station.
  • Using signs and voice output communication
devices have the students survey the general
education population about their family size. The
general education students will put their surveys
into numbered boxes that coordinate with the
number of members in their families. Tally the
surveys and create a graph in the class. Display
the graph for the school to see.
