Purpose
  • Program for pregnant women
  • Reduce unhealthy birth weights
  • Improve health of baby and mother
  • Encourage breastfeeding
  • Services include food supplementation, nutrition
    counseling

Need for this Program
  • CPNP targets women who are most likely to have
    unhealthy babies due to poor health and nutrition
  • In 2001/02, over 44, 650 women participated in
    CPNP projects

Results from Research
  • 79 had less than 12 years of education 21 had
    not completed grade 10
  • 96 of projects reported offering food
    supplements
  • 87 offered breastfeeding support
  • CPNP projects are the community's only source of
    prenatal nutrition services
  • 34 of women served were teenagers, including 8
    who are 16 years old or younger

  • CAPC projects deliver 1,790 programs in more than
    3,035 communities
  • 38 of CAPC parents had not finished high school
  • On average, CAPC projects have 13 partners
  • More than 85 of projects partner with health
    organizations
