What will my child study?

• We will be learning basic Spanish vocabulary and
  conversation. We will sing songs, play games,
  read, write, and have lots of fun!
• We will also be learning about Latin/Spanish
  Culture.

How can I help my child succeed?

• Encourage your child to listen participate in
  class.
• Watch T.V. programs in Spanish!
• Ask specific questions about the class.
• (What topic did you talk about
  today?
• Did you read or write today?
• What did you like about the
  lesson?
• Which physical activity did you
  do today?)
• Make medical appointments after school to avoid
  missing class.
• Give Praise!

Will my child be fluent?

• No! Fluency isnt the goal.

• The goals are
• E X P O S U R E to the language the culture.
• E X P A N D their understanding and lay a
  foundation for further language learning.
• E X P E R I E N C E providing opportunities for
  students to use the language in and beyond
  class.

Classes.

• The classes meet for 50 minutes per week.
• At the end of the year students will have had
  Spanish instruction time equivalent to only 4
  entire school days out of 180 compared to 12
  entire school days of recess!

• Elementary students are only in class for
  approximately 28 hours
• per year.
• High school students are in Spanish class
  approximately 122 hours a year plus
  lots of hours spent on completing homework.
• You need to hear 75 repetitions of the same word
  to internalize it.
