RD Planning
  • 1) Demonstration phase
  • Continue work with small prototypes on mapping
    out parameter space, understanding resolution,
etc, to prove feasibility of an MPGD TPC. For
CMOS/Si-based ideas this will include a basic
    proof-of-principle.
  • 2) Consolidation phase
  • Build and operate the LP, large prototype, (Ø
75cm, drift 100cm), with EUDET infrastructure
as pedestal, to test manufacturing techniques
for MPGD endplates, fieldcage and electronics.
Design is starting---building and testing will
    take another 3 years.
  • 3) Design phase
  • After phase 2, the decision as to which endplate
technology to use for the LC TPC would be taken
    and final design started.

6

Phase 1 continue (in parallel to LP) for next
2 years
7

  • Phase 2
  • Basic Idea LP should be a prototype for the LC
TPC design and test as many of the issues as
possible as was done before, e.g., TPC90 _at_ Aleph
  • The Eudet infrastructure gives us a starting
    basis for the LP work
  • There other LC TPC RD issues in addition to
building LP which will be planned in conjunction
    with it

8
LCTPC/LP Issues(This is a list that Mike put
together for todays meeting-gtyou will see these
are contained in the following workpackages)
  • Physics Requirements/Benchmarks
  • RD Priorities
  • Mechanics
  • Electronics
  • Software
  • Background studies
  • Calibration/Alignment/Monitoring

LC TPC convener candidates Overall
composition of conveners 5050 between
ExtraEudet and Eudet affiliations

15

LCTPC/LP Workpackages We now have the conveners,
here are some suggestions for how to
proceed -Kickoff phone meeting of the conveners
on 19 April 2006 (Ill be at Desy) -Conveners
get feedback from LCTPC collaboration (i.e., the
represent the collaboration, not a particular
institute) -Have regular LPWP phone meetings
every few weeks -Less frequent full meetings.
-Other suggestions?
16

Upcoming PRC Meeting
  • Status report to the Desy PRC 11May2006 (written
    version due 12 April)
  • Written version whats happened since last PRC
  • I have received feedback from Dean, Jan, Paul
need rest since written report due next week!!!
  • Drafts will be available at http//mppmu.mpg.de/s
    ettles/tpcprc2006.pdf
  • Between 12 April and 11 May, I shall be asking
    the groups about (confidential) money/manpower
    situation (as for past PRCs)

17

LCTPC collaboration We had in the old days (for
the PRC reports) -Steering group with 1
representative and 1 backup per country to
discuss overall situation, make
recommendations Country steering
member/backup CAN Madhu Dixit/Dean Karlen
D Stefan Roth/Ties Behnke F
Paul Colas/Vincent Lepeltier NL
Jan Timmermans PL Elzbieta
Rulikowska RUS Alexei
Buzulutskov USA Mike Ronan/Ulrich Becker
Convener Ron Settles -Regular RD
phone/video meetings set up by me -Madhu did
minutes -Paul kept track of TPC talks at
conferences/workshops -Some other responsibilites
were distributed
18

LCTPC collaboration What do we need for the
enlarged TPC collaboration and Phase (2)?
A suggestion (others are welcome) after some
discussion -Extend the steering to
Japan, China, Sweden, Cern to cover all
countries, keeping the present setup for the
steering. (Thats the easiest way for a first
iteration. We can make further changes as we go
along.) -Form a virtual collaboration
board of group leaders (i.e. meetings by email or
phone/www) -Have a TPC meeting in
conjunction with LCWS and regional meetings, like
at Bangalore. The next regional meeting is at
Vancouver (ALCPG) July 19-22 information from
Dean there is time allotted for satellite
meetings on the afternoon of Tuesday July 18 and
the morning of July 23. -Other ideas?
