Title: Powerpoint update on the situation in South Asia
1 The day the earth shook
2 Some 3 million people in Pakistan and India have
been left homeless following the massive
earthquake on Saturday, 8 October 2005.
3At least 50,000 people died in the 7.6 magnitude
earthquake.
4Tearfunds grants have included 100,000 given
for the purchase of winterised tents. These are
now being distributed in Pakistan and India.
5Winterised tents have a double layer of durable
canvas. They can withstand heavy rains, wind and
snow.

6 Tearfunds Christian partners are working to
ensure hospitals, schools and homes are rebuilt
to withstand future earthquakes.
7Money must be set apart for programmes that
prepare people to withstand disasters. Investing
in responding to disasters is not enough. Roy
Alex, head of Tearfund partner, EHA.

10HOW CAN I HELP?
Please pray
For all those who are grieving the loss of
friends and relatives, particularly children who
have lost parents. For those made homeless who
face hunger and the threat of disease.
11HOW CAN I HELP?
Please pray
For Tearfunds staff and relief workers,
including Wilson Saraj as he offers advice and
support to local organisations, and helps
co-ordinate relief efforts. Pray for their health
and well-being as they cope with overwhelming
needs.
12 He raises the poor from the dust and lifts the
needy from the ash heap.
