3
The scribes and Pharisees
  • Scribes devoted their lives to studying and
    copying the law and prophets
  • They also interpreted and taught the Law

you have no reward from your Father in heaven.

  • We can not do things to be seen of men Matt 61
  • We can not neglect any of Gods commandments Matt
    519
  • Whoever therefore breaks one of the least of
these commandments, and teaches men so, shall be
called least in the kingdom of heaven but
whoever does and teaches them, he shall be called
great in the kingdom of heaven.

  • Whoever shall keep the whole law, and yet
stumble in one point, he is guilty of all. For He
who said, "Do not commit adultery," also said,
"Do not murder." Now if you do not commit
adultery, but you do murder, you have become a
    transgressor of the law.

11
Philippians 39
  • And be found in Him, not having my own
righteousness, which is from the law, but that
which is through faith in Christ, the
righteousness which is from God by faith

12
John 423-24
  • "But the hour is coming, and now is, when the
true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit
and truth for the Father is seeking such to
worship Him. "God is Spirit, and those who
worship Him must worship in spirit and truth."

in tongue, but in deed and in truth.

15
The Righteousness of the Kingdom
  • We must have faith coupled with good works
    James 214-19, 1 John 318
  • Our public and private lives must be consistent

  • For there is nothing hidden which will not be
revealed, nor has anything been kept secret but
that it should come to light.

  • And there is no creature hidden from His sight,
but all things are naked and open to the eyes of
Him to whom we must give account.

20
The Righteousness of the Kingdom
  • Righteousness is more than mere commandment
    keeping
  • We must draw near to God with our heart.
  • Righteousness is made possible by Gods grace
  • We can have forgiveness through the blood of His
    Son Matt 2628
  • If we have truly submitted to his will, He will
    help us Phil 413

21
  • For I say to you, that unless your righteousness
exceeds the righteousness of the scribes and

    of heaven.
