What is TTBS ?

- The Trinidad and Tobago Bureau of Standards-TTBS
is a corporate body established in 1974. It
operates under the Ministry of Trade and Industry
and through the Standards Act No.18 of 1997 -
- It has the responsibility of being the -
- national standards body
- national quality certifying body
- national laboratory accrediting body.

3PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
- The Standards Regulations, 2004 states that TTBS
can certify against national, regional and
international standards and guides. - TTBS therefore is responsible for instituting a
National Quality System and establishing,
administering and operating schemes of
certification of goods. TTBS uses System 5 as
outlined in ISO/IEC Guide 672004 to achieve
conformity identification.
4PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
What is Product Certification ?

- Product Certification is an activity by which a
third-party gives written assurance that a
product (including process and service) fulfills
specified requirements. - ISO/IEC Guide 672004
- The third party (TTBS) then gives permission
for the conforming product to bear a mark of
conformity, which is the Trinidad and Tobago
Product Certification Mark. - Batch Certification- TTBS can issue a
Certificate of Conformity indicating that the
batch of product conforms to product standards
or standards covering specific properties of the
product. -

5PRODUCT CERTIFICATION
How does TTBS ensure quality ?
- TTBS uses Product Certification System 5 which
involves testing of your product both at the
point of manufacture or distributing warehouse as
well as an assessment of elements of your Quality
Management System. In addition there is
surveillance of your product in the marketplace
by periodic testing to ensure consistency.

Company submits application form questionnaire
- Each Stage in this scheme brings you closer to
gaining permission to use the Trinidad and Tobago
Product Certification Mark on your product
Completion of the Self-Evaluation questionnaire
Site Visit is made Product withdrawn for testing
Quality System Audit conducted
Licence Certificate Agreement granted for use
of the Product Certification Mark
