Title: Industrialization Project
1Industrialization Project
2Who was and what were Adam Smiths economic
theory?
- Adam Smith was a Scottish economist. Analyzed
society. - Laissez-faire left alone, and the self-interest
of people will move by its own will. - Wealth of Nations(1776) included economic
theories. Stated that if the economy was left
alone, three forces would come into play and be
most profitable for everyone. These three forces
were (1) self-interest, (2) competition, (3)
supply and demand.(Heilbroner) - The invisible hand private interests and
passions of men. - He believed that the invisible hand pushes the
profit towards different directions that is most
agreeable to the interest of the whole
society.(Heilbroner) - Competition helps even out where the profit goes.
(Not only one person/company will get all of the
money)
3How did the Capitalism of Adam Smith evolved into
Industrialization?
- Industrialization was the process of change from
relying on human/animal labor to the use of
machines to produce goods. - Adam Smith believed that competition will even
out where the profit goes. The Industrial
Revolution was about self interest, and
competition between other companies. - Division of labor caused work to be very
efficient and factories were able to produce mass
productions. - Skilled people were able to get jobs, and those
that complained were thrown out because of the
competition to get jobs was very high. - Population increased, but the working conditions
declined greately.
4The Industrial Revolution was a competition
between companies. This pictures shows many cars
from different companies, portraying the
competitive business.

5Life styles that were influenced by the
Industrial Revolution
- Good
- More foreign trade.
- People urbanized. (Started living in the city)
- Development of factories. Advanced technology.
- Private Companies that ran for their own self
interest and profit. - Non-government owned operated companies
- Bad
- Bigger range between the rich and poor
- People had to work harder and had more demanding
work routines. Child Labor (Tignor) - Damages the natural world and its
resources.(Kaczynski) - Tradition fades as people leave their villages to
make money(Kaczynski)
6This is a picture of a child working in the
factories just like adults. The lifestyles of
people changed dramatically not only for adults,
but for young children. They were treated just
like adults in these factories.

7How changes in lifestyles led to Social Darwinism
- Social Darwinism was the belief of survival of
the fittest. Only those that had the right traits
to survive will succeed in business. - If they are not sufficiently complete to live,
they die and it is best that they should die.
(Spencer) - The poor people, made from the result of
Industrialization, were meant to be poor and work
overtime, because they dont have the right
traits to succeed in the Industrial Revolution.
The whole effort of nature is to get rid of
them, and make room for the better. (Spencer) - To succeed, it means that they have increased
their own individual self interest. This is not
an evil tendency in business. It is merely the
working out of a law of nature and of God.
(Rockefeller)
8This is a phylogenic tree designed to show the
relationships between species. This symbolizes
Social Darwinism, because those that dont have
the traits to go on, cannot reach to the top of
the tree.

9How changes in lifestyles led to Marxism
- Marx believed that the society is divided into
classes (Byres) In the Industrial Revolution,
there was a bigger gap that divided the rich
class and the poor class. - The proletariant, or the working class, held the
key and was the building block to all of the
society. The labor that the lower class put in,
helped the Industrial Revolution to go on.
Without it, it wouldve developed much slower. - There will be a revolution caused by the lower
class, because they have a sense of unity, being
together in the factories all day long, and
noticing their disadvantages.
10Karl Marx is the originator of Marxism. He
believed that the working class held the power,
and they will cause a revolution.
