Aim
  • To provide community groups with a practical
    examination of the Access NI service.

Why do we need Access NI?
  • Access NI services can provide a safeguard to
    employers and those in their care, preventing
    crime and protecting the vulnerable. Some
    employers will be under a legal obligation to
    seek disclosures on potential employees.

Access NI Definitions
  • Registered Body organisation registered with
    AccessNI
  • to apply for and receive standard and enhanced
    disclosures.
  • Umbrella Body registered body who countersigns
    applications for disclosures for other
    organisations.
  • Disclosure certificate criminal history provided
    by AccessNI.
  • Lead signatory person within registered body who
    is ultimately responsible for management of the
    disclosure process and relationship with
    AccessNI.
  • Counter signatory any subsequent person
  • within organisation to manage disclosure
    process.

Standard / Enhanced checks
  • Consider the degree if proximity to children /
  • vulnerable groups
  • Standard Exempted Question (ROA) and primarily
    positions with any access to children /
    vulnerable adults.
  • Enhanced involved regularly in caring for,
    training, supervising or being in sole charge of
    children / vulnerable adults.

When Should a Check be Requested?
  • When you have
  • completed all of the other stages of the
    recruitment process (e.g. interview scrutiny of
    references examination of qualifications)
  • decided in principle to appoint the individual,
    subject to the results of a disclosure.
  • You should have informed the potential employee
    from the outset that you would be seeking a
    disclosure.

Fees
  • Access NI Charge
  • Standard disclosure 28.
  • Enhanced disclosure 30.
  • Basic disclosure 26.
  • AccessNI provide FREE disclosure checks for
    qualifying volunteers.
  • NWVC apply a 5.00 administration charge for
    every check.

Access NI Definition of a Volunteer
  • anyone who gives their time in a position in a
    non-profit organisation, free of charge doing
    something for the good of the community or a
    voluntary group (for which they may get
    travelling and other out of pocket expenses) and
    which is not for their own benefit or for the
    benefit of a close relative.
  • Exclusions
  • Where the person is volunteering directly for a
    Statutory organisation or
  • Where the person is volunteering for a not for
    profit organisation in a position which delivers
    statutory services under contract or in a
    specific project for which that organisation has
    received funding from the government which
    includes provision covering the costs of
    disclosures for volunteers.
