Evidence for Single Top Quark Production
Abstract In 1995, the top quark was discovered at
the Fermilab Tevatron Collider through the
strong force.  The strong force produces top
quarks in particle-antiparticle pairs. But the
standard model of particle physics predicts a
second way to produce top quarks through the
electroweak force.  In contrast to the strong
force, the electroweak force produces only
individual top quarks.  After more than 10 years
of searching, the D0 Collaboration has just found
evidence for this electroweak process.
