Purpose
- Panel of outside experts to help with the
Company's Research Development effort. - Provide Board of Directors and Management a
reality check on Company's progress.
4Scientific Advisory Board (SAB)
Selection
- External scientists (usually academic) with
expertise useful to aspects of the Company's
program. - Beware of "Harvard phenomenon" i.e. select
people who will actually show up and help you. - It's not worth having a Nobel Laureate on your
SAB for window dressing. - SAB should not be static -- Should change as
Company's interests change.

Interaction
- Should be able to call on SAB periodically for
information/advice. - Ideally SAB members funnel useful
suggestions/contacts to the company. - One or more SAB meetings per year.

Meeting
- AnorMED has one per year.
- All day event. All staff invited.
- Good learning opportunity for Board of Directors
and staff. - SAB meets after meeting to review and summarize.
SAB chairman sends conclusions to Board of
Directors.

Compensation
- Stock options.
- Per meeting stipend/expenses.
- SAB members sign confidentiality agreements with
Company.
