Requirements ofSenate Bill 1031
  • In 2007 Senate Bill 1031 was passed requiring the
    phase out of high school TAKS and replacing it
    with EOC assessments in
  • English I, English II, English III
  • Algebra I, Algebra II, Geometry
  • Biology, Chemistry, Physics
  • U.S. History, World History, World Geography
  • Freshman class of 20112012 is first group to
    have EOC as graduation requirement (current 6th
    grade class)

Requirements ofSenate Bill 1031
  • Each EOC assessment will be scored on a scale of
    0100.
  • To graduate, students on the Recommended
    Distinguished HS Plans must attain a cumulative
    score of at least 210 per subject area.
  • To graduate, students on the Minimum Plan must
    attain a cumulative score of at least 70
    multiplied by the number of courses they take in
    which an EOC assessment exists.

    Plan varies by subject area and can be as low as

    count towards their cumulative score.

    assessment each time it is administered.
  • Students scoring below 70 must receive
    accelerated instruction.

    worth 15 of the students final grade for that
    course
  • A school district is not required to use the
    students score on subsequent administrations to
    determine the students final grade for that
    course
  • A student is not required to retake a course as a
    condition of retaking an EOC assessment

  • Every third year, the agency shall release the
    questions and answer keys to each EOC assessment
    instrument administered that school year.
  • The agency may defer releasing assessment
    instrument questions and answer keys to the
    extent necessary to develop additional assessment
    instruments.

    performance on college readiness standards.

  • Some EOC assessments, such as English I, have no
    direct link to advanced courses or those that are
    typically taken by students in 11th and 12th
    grade.
  • Other EOC assessments, such as geometry, world
    history, and biology, have no direct content
    correlation to other EOC assessments.

  • EOC assessments may not be administered earlier
    than the first full week in May, except English
    I, II, and III which may occur at an earlier
    date.
  • The commissioner shall adopt a transition plan to
    implement the requirements of SB 1031.

  • Includes higher-education faculty

  • Available for students who
  • Are enrolled in and completing the course in the
    spring semester, regardless of enrolled grade
    level
  • Do not need special versions, i.e.,
    linguistically modified, Braille, large print,
    etc.these are not currently available

  • World Geographyonline and paper
  • Three-week testing window is May 422, 2009

  • Districts were notified of their selection in the
    field-test letter dated August 20, 2008
  • Campuses should test all eligible students
    enrolled in the course up to a maximum of 200
  • Campuses should select from eligible students in
    a random manner

  • EOC assessments are untimed, but designed to be
    completed in about 2 hours
  • Operational tests are taking about 1½2 hours to
    complete
  • Field tests are taking an average of about 1 hour
    to complete

  • Are not grade specific
  • Are not required to be part of a students grade
  • Are not included in state or federal
    accountability
  • Are not required for graduation, therefore there
    are no retests available
