Isabelle Impey

• Isabelle Impey, daughter of the Métis Activist
  James Brady, was born and raised in Cumberland
  House, Saskatchewan. She is a Widow, Mother of 6
  and Grandmother of 18. Isabelle strongly
  believes in preserving culture. She does that
  through her art, cooking, regularly participation
  in traditional ceremonies and encourages many to
  join and learn from the experience. As well, she
  is fluent in and teaches many dialects of
  conversational Cree.

• Isabelles Art is primarily beadwork and
  beadwork on clothing. She is also gifted at
  making clothes and quilts. In addition to her
  art work, Isabelle can add the following to her
  list of titles
• President of the Métis Women of Saskatchewan.
• Executive Director of the Gabriel Dumont
  Institute of Native Studies and Applied Research.
  
• Chairperson of the Highway Traffic Board
• First Nations Government Specialist
• Training Program Director.

• Métis Addictions Council of Saskatchewan.
• Chairperson on the RCMP Aboriginal Department.
• Administrator at the All Saints Residential
  School.
• Contributed to the creation of the First Nations
  University of Canada.
• Recipient of the 2009 National Aboriginal Women
  of Distinction Award.
• An Elder.

• The symbol means
• Infinite.

  of Isabelles style that she learned from her
  mother in Cumberland House.

• Although she is proficient in both,

• the rounded flowers are her signature style.

Cradle board

• A cradle board is used to carry babies when
  travelling.
• Most of Isabelles 6 children and 18
  grandchildren have used them.

Moccasins

• Moccasins were the
• footwear of Métis people
• for a lot of years. Decorating
• the practical footwear was
• done with love for the
• wearer of the item.
• Isabelle taught all of
• her children, grand-
• Children, and in-laws to make their own.

Moss Bag

• A moss bag was used to
• various medicinal and useful
• items from the land.
• The family still uses these
• as medicine bags.
• During the pandemic, the
• family collected many
• medicinal items in
• preparation for the sickness.

Where is Isabelle now?

• Isabelle Impey lives in Prince Albert
  Saskatchewan. She recently received the National
  Aboriginal Women of Distinction Award 2009.
  Click here to view her acceptance speech and
  nomination. She continues to work, bead, teach
  and preserve her culture. Volunteer work is a
  large part of her life. With the help of family
  and friends, Isabelle collects food donations
  from local businesses and distributes food
  hampers to those in need. As well, the family
  holds and annual Feed the Hungry Christmas
  dinner. Isabelle is a strong role model not only
  for Aboriginal women but for every person of any
  race.

  from anywhere in the world.
• Provide a biography of the Artist you choose and
  include a presentation of some of their works .
• Each slide must provide an explanation of the
  piece presented.
• The Artist may be alive or dead.
• The Art can include painting, sculpture,
  beadwork, quill work, birch bark biting,
  tattooing, piercing, architecture, sewing, etc.
  (Any form of visual art).
• Must have at least 10 pages in your power point.
