• Muhammad an Arabian merchant received from the
  archangel Gabriel gods messenger.
• He predicated against the pagan Arabians of the
  time who banished him to the nearby city of
  Medina
• In Medina Muhammad found scores of followers and
  with them he returned triumphant to Mecca where
  he founded the Islamic religion.
• Muhammad supposedly ascended to heaven instead of
  dying in Jerusalem. The Dome of the Rock marks
  the point were he accended towards heaven.

  eastern Mediterranean on the area around the
  Middle East are mostly Muslims.

• There are two divisions in Islam. They are
  called the Shia Muslims and the Sunni Muslims.
• The Shia belief that Imams, the leaders of
  Muslims communities are essential for the
  salvation of all the Muslims.
• Religious leadership of the Sunni community in
  Lebanon is based on principles and institutions
  deriving partly from traditional Islam and partly
  from French influence.

  dominated an empire that straeched from Spain to
  Indonesia

  discoverings in medicine, the arts and

• It was the Muslims that kept the ancient Greek
  and Roman ideas alive.

• In Muslim marriages the union occurs between the
  two families more than of the two individuals.

  Christian one. There are almost no public and
  there are no coffins.

• There is no clergy either, Muslims prey directly
  to god.
• The leader of any mosque is called an imam for
  the Sunni Muslims they play only a supporting
  role while they are indispensable to the Shia.
