3Primary students at Shaw Elementary
are using Tux Paint to practice math concepts
4Mr. Chavarria gives concrete instruction
in creating sets of ten in various ways
5Students are fully engaged as they
see colorful digital manipulatives
6Students take turns coming up to the board
to create their own unique sets of ten
7Concepts being taught support ADE standards for
Number Sense (PO 1, 3, 6)
8Concepts being taught support ADE standards for
Numerical Operations (PO 1, 3, 5, 6)
9Students have the program on their computers
so they can practice making sets of ten on their
own.
10Students are proud to show their work
to Mr. Chavarria when he comes around.
11Students understand that computer time
is for learning how to use the computer as a tool.
12Although everyone is making ten sets of ten,
students see that 100 can be made in many ways.
13Some students take their time to create
unique sets of 10 by changing colors for each
object.
14Students learn that if they make their stamps too
big,
they will not be able to fit 100 stamps on the
screen.
15Some students are very meticulous in
lining up their groups of ten stamps.
