Status of Eastern/Southern Resource Center
DOTs
  • Most of the State DOTs have completed at least
    90 of the evaluations.
  • However, if we add the Unknown Foundations
category, there would be a few State DOTs at 90
completion (DC, DE, KY, NH, NY, OK, RI and VA).
  • Nationally, 17 State DOTs would be at 90
    completion.

6
Unknown Foundations
  • Evaluations should be conducted if the engineer
has been able to identify the type and/or depth
    of bridge foundation.
  • Team effort between FHWA field offices and FHWA
customers to decide course of action.

7
Course of Action for Unknown Foundations
  • Do nothing?
  • Code bridge as 3 for item 113 (scour critical)?
  • Monitoring?
  • Rock riprap placement?
  • Replace bridge?
  • New technology needed?

8
Current Activities
  • Updating HECs 18, 20 23
  • Completion target date January 2001
  • Updating HIRE
  • Completion target date Spring 2001
  • Revisions to NHI Course 13046
  • Completion target date Spring 2001
