3The UnifiedRoot serviceA new DNS system
- The UnifiedRoot system offers a new and more
- comprehensive DNS system when compared to the
current - DNS environment offered by ICANN.
- Besides offering DNS Root Servers which include
the traditional - Top Level Domains (TLD) from ICANN, it also
includes new TLDs - not found at the current DNS system.
- UnifiedRoot also offers access to caching Domain
Name Servers for - individual users to use.
-
4Overview of the Root Server infrastructureIndepen
dent and New
- The UnifiedRoot infrastructure consists of
hardware and - software which is fully owned by UnifiedRoot.
Suppliers for - internet bandwidth, physical housing, system
management and - so on, are carefully selected by UnifiedRoot. If
need be, it is - possible to switch suppliers without comprising
the service to - its customers.
- The new UnifiedRoot infrastructure offers new
functionalities which - are of interest to new and upcoming markets in
the world.
5Overview of the Root Server infrastructureScalabi
lity and Redundancy
- The UnifiedRoot Root Server infrastructure is set
up with - scalability and redundancy as an integral part of
the complete - environment.
- We understand that reliability of the Root Server
infrastructure is - of paramount importance. That is why we use IP
addresses which - are owned by UnifiedRoot and by using BGP
anycasting, the number - of physical sites around the world housing Root
Server equipment - can be expanded without changes to configurations
for customers.

9Overview of the Cache Server infrastructureAvaila
bility and high performance
- For individual users who want to use the
UnifiedRoot DNS - system, DNS cache servers are available. These
servers are - spread across the world and use fixed IP
addresses owned by - UnifiedRoot ensuring that these IP addresses will
not change - anymore.
- By using BGP anycasting, the number of physical
nodes around the - world can be expanded to handle the DNS requests
while ensuring - maximum availability to the users.
10Overview of the Cache Server infrastructureAvaila
bility and high performance
- Internet Service Providers deciding to offer the
new UnifiedRoot - DNS system to its customers can also use the
caching name - servers although UnifiedRoot advises these ISPs
to change the - configuration of their own caching name servers
for maximum - performance and efficiency.
- Simply substituting the hints file for the one
supplied by UnifiedRoot - and restarting the name servers is enough to
switch over the new - and more flexible DNS system.
- Support for ISPs wanting to switch is available.
11Features available in the UnifiedRoot environment
- The UnifiedRoot environment offers some and
exciting - features
- Possibility to register almost every TLD
available. No difficult or undefined assignment
processes are used. - All Root Servers operate on IPv4 and IPv6 IP
addresses. - All Cache Servers operate on IPv4 and IPv6 IP
addresses. - Full unicode character sets is supported so
native characters for every country and language
are supported, like Chinese, Cyrillic and Arabic. - Physical locations for Root and Cache servers can
be located close to large customers or in
countries when requested.
12Overview of the TLD backoffice
- UnifiedRoot offers a backoffice to register and
administer the - assigned TLDs. Changing the name servers (both
IPv4 and - IPv6) can be performed.
- In the following slides, screenshots are provided
to give an - impression of this easy to use backoffice.

23Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar
- UnifiedRoot can offer several possibilities to
join the network - of partners and resellers.
- Acting as a registrar for a new TLD is one of the
most exciting - and commercially attractive possibilities.
UnifiedRoot can offer - the backoffice for registering and handling
domain names for your - customers. This backoffice can be build in your
look and feel and - will be available in your language.
24Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar
- When UnifiedRoot handles the complete backoffice
for you - as a registrar, it also provides services like
the name servers - and a redirecting service which allows your
customers to use - their new domain name by redirecting the
webbrowser to their - existing website and thus minimizing changes
needed. - Further functionalities can be developed
according to specified - requirements or you can link your own
applications with the - registrar backoffice.
25Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar, example
- For example, an organization decides to be a
registrar for - a new TLD, ?? (which is Chinese for China).
- Customers of the registrar can register names
like - ??.?? (export.china)?
- ??.?? (shanghai.china)?
- ??.?? (olympic.china)?
- The UnifiedRoot supplied backoffice for this
registrar will handle (in - the Chinese language) the registration and
support processes for the - registrar.
26Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar, example
- The customer for ??.?? can use the backoffice to
- have this domain name redirected to the website
for Shanghai, - by using the redirect tool.
- Based on the local situations, the backoffice can
assist the registrar - in the invoicing process or the registrar can
handle this himself in - which case he can enter the payments into the
backoffice for - processing.
27Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar, example
- Based on the wishes of the registrar, additional
services can - be developed, like the possibility to offer dns
services, web - hosting or mail services within the new domain.
- DNS services would allow a customer to assign IP
addresses - (both IPv4 and IPv6) or MX records to a DNS name
like ??.??. - Web hosting would allow a customer to host its
website with the - name ??.?? at the registrar infrastructure.
- Mail services could provide mailbox services for
the ??.?? - name.
28Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar, example
- The dns, web and mail services can also be
provided by the - registrar itself in which case a XML interface
for username - and passwords will be implemented. The registrar
can use this - XML interface to offer the customer a single
username and - password infrastructure.
29Possibilities for organizationsActing as a
registrar, conclusion
- The UnifiedRoot infrastructure offers
- Using TLDs in native language and character set.
- Using the UnifiedRoot supplied backoffice for
faster deployment. - Using optional Root Server and Cache Server
infrastructure for own TLD. - Possibility to develop extra services like
webhosting and mail services. - Assistance in invoicing or interfacing with
registrars system. - Possibility to have XML interfaces for tight
integration with separate systems.
30Possibilities for organizationsOther
opportunities
- Besides the possibility to act as a registrar,
other opportunities - also exist. Corporate companies can use a TLD for
their own - commercial and marketing purposes and new
applications can - now make use of a DNS systems which is fully
capable of native - characters and IPv4 and Ipv6.
- UnifiedRoot is committed to the commercial
success of its customers - and can help in deploying and introduction of new
services.
