MARK
The Gospel of Action
2Chapter 7
- 1. Who gathered to meet Jesus leaving Jerusalem?
Why do you think Mark explains who they were? - The Pharisees and some of the scribes gathered
around Him when they had come from Jerusalem,
(Mark 71) - Mark explains the washing habits of the Pharisees
and Jews. - Mark has a Gentile audience who would not
understand these Jewish practices.

3Chapter 7
- 2. What practice did they have? How were they
hypocritical in this? - The Pharisees and Jews would wash their hands
before eating - They washed their hands, but their hearts where
not clean before God.

4Chapter 7
- 3. In what did Jesus say they were experts? Do
we ever match them in this talent? What did
Jesus say they were really doing (Mark 713)? - You are experts at setting aside the commandment
of God in order to keep your tradition. (Mark
79) - Many today follow tradition (or other false
standards) instead of God's word. - Jesus said by doing this they were "invalidating
the word of God" (Mark 713).

5Chapter 7
- 4. What did Jesus try to do in Mark 724?
- Jesus got up and went away from there to the
region of Tyre. And when He had entered a house,
He wanted no one to know of it yet He could not
escape notice. (Mark 724)

7Chapter 7
- 6. What was strange about Jesus' healing of a
man in Decapolis? - To heal this man, Jesus touched his tongue with
saliva. - What part did the saliva play in this miracle?
And they were casting out many demons and were
anointing with oil many sick people and healing
them. (Mark 613)
After hearing about Jesus, she came up in the
crowd behind Him and touched His
cloakImmediately the flow of her blood was dried
up and she felt in her body that she was healed
of her affliction. (Mark 527, 29)
Taking the blind man by the hand, He brought him
out of the village and after spitting on his
eyes and laying His hands on him, He asked him,
"Do you see anything?" (Mark 823)
When He had said this, He spat on the ground, and
made clay of the spittle, and applied the clay to
his eyes, and said to him, "Go, wash in the pool
of Siloam" (which is translated, Sent). So he
went away and washed, and came back seeing. (John
96-7)
"Behold, I will stand before you there on the
rock at Horeb and you shall strike the rock, and
water will come out of it, that the people may
drink." And Moses did so in the sight of the
elders of Israel. (Exodus 176)
