- Advice from the 2003 and 2004 site visitors
- Have only one or a small number of people
entering the metadata. - An advantage of the site visit was a set time to
get everyone together to talk PBDMI. Do you want
to schedule similar internal meetings? - The new application is exception based, so it
does not require all metadata to be entered.

- Advice from the 2003 and 2004 site visitors
- The application has been re-conceptualized to use
the submission file perspective so SEAs planning
can align with the final file structure. - This metadata documentation process can be an
opportunity for communication across program
offices, IT, and SEA leadership.

EDEN has come a long way in defining data
elements, codes, and formats. SEAs are building
on EDENs standards.
The Alaska Department of Education and Early
Development (EED) Prepared for ESPs Data
Dictionary Development Project.

- The software application demonstrated today has
two major purposes. - Documentation by state education agencies (SEAs)
of the data sources, definitions, and submission
files for the 2005-06 EDEN data submissions. - Collection by the U.S. Department of Education
(ED) of the metadata describing each SEAs EDEN
data.

- ESP has modified the PBDMI Element Software
Version 2.9 to provide the following new
functions. - Display of element specifications for each
submission format - Alignment with the metadata dictionary for EDEN
- Enhanced description pages and reports for the
SEAs data collections, source files, and EDEN
data consolidation files - Enhanced reports linking elements, data sources,
and submission files - Project management calendars pre-loaded with
significant EDEN target dates for scheduling and
tracking the progress of all EDEN-related SEA
activities - Hyperlink to the upload web site for transferring
metadata files - Automated upload and confirmation functions on
the web page - Query and standard report functions for ED staff,
with designations of the status of each SEA and
their metadata - SEA definitions for state-defined terms
