Current System Levels

Solaris Status

• Current support for Solaris 2.6 and 7.
• Starting to phase out 2.6
• Kernel patches requiring reboots for security,
  stability
• Testing and certification of Solaris 8 will begin
  late this year
• Many, many hits from ecache errors

Linux Status

• RedHat 6.2 is current supported version
• Taylor support is ready for rollout soon
• Linux farm being upgraded
• Was 34 dual 450 MHz tower systems
• Will be 50 dual 733 MHz rack systems
• Also installing 16 node Myrinet cluster

Taylor

• Re-implemented SLAC's Tailor system to handle
  Linux
• Complete rewrite sh -gt Perl
• Copies, edits, merges files on machines from
  repository, based on per-machine options.

HPSS

• Currently largest known HPSS system
• gt 200TB and growing
• Migration planned from 4.1 to 4.1.1 in December
• Second HPSS service planned to support general
  staging
• Will be an alpha test of the port of HPSS 4.2 to
  Solaris

Clear Text Passwords

• Investigations current underway of Openssh
• Supports V1 and V2 clients
• Supports AFS token forwarding
• Down to two telnet machines
• No pop/imap clear text passwords by Dec31
• Moving passwords out of YP
• Still no good replacement for ftp
