Climate Change The Greatest Threat to Business
Continuity?
4AUSRH Woking Case Study
- Climate Change The Greatest Threat?
- 30,000 people die every day from lack of water
and food - 10 times the number of people that
died in the Twin Towers. - In 1980s early 1990s over 30,000 UK elderly
residents died each year of hypothermia in their
own homes 10 times the number of people that
died in the Twin Towers. - In the summer of 2004 over 12,000 people died in
their own homes in France from heat exhaustion
4 times the number of people that died in the
Twin Towers.
5AUSRH Woking Case Study
- Climate Change The Greatest Threat?
- In the summer of 2005 thousands of hectares of
Spain and Portugal burnt during excessive drought
whilst Austria, Switzerland and Germany had
exceptional floods. - The Arctic is losing ice cover and the sea around
the shores of Greenland were over one month late
in freezing in 2005 threatening the lives of
Polar Bears. - The South East of England now has the same amount
of water per head of population as Saudi Arabia
and less rainfall per head of population than
Australia.
6AUSRH Woking Case Study
- Climate Change The Greatest Threat?
- The Royal Commission on Climate Change said CO2
equivalent emissions at 550 ppmv would lead to
irreversible Climate Change were currently
circa 400 and growing fast. - The International Energy Agency recently reported
that whilst there was enough Oil, Gas and Coal to
provide energy for all in 2050 the effect of
using it was not sustainable in terms of Climate
Change. - Whatever we do now Global temperature will
continue to rise from the last 30 years of
emissions.

- Climate Change in Australia
- Why Bother?
- We are too small and irrelevant!
- Australia only 2 of World CO2!
- We have 500 years of Coal!
- We have 300 years of Gas!
- Look at China India!
- Energy Efficiency isnt worth it!
14AUSRH Woking Case Study
- Climate Change in Australia
- Bother!!
- Since when has Australia been irrelevant?
- Rugby League? Cricket?
- Soccer? World Cup Euphoria!
- How much water have you got?
- Would you spend 2 when 1 would do?
