Title: You can find it

1
You can find it!
A lesson on latitude and longitude
based on a lesson by Tracie Hurtz
2
Lets remember...
  • People describe their location on Earth by using
a system of imaginary lines called longitude and
    latitude.
  • The equator and the prime meridian are the
    starting points for this system.

3
Latitude
  • The equator is midway between the poles and runs
    east and west
  • Any location above the equator is described as
    __ north latitude.
  • Any location below it described as __ south
    latitude.

4
Longitude
  • The prime meridian, which is a north and south
line, runs through England and Africa.
  • Any location to the west of it is described as
    __ west longitude.
  • Any location to the east of the line is described
    as __ east longitude.

5
A Helpful Hint
Its easy to remember the difference between
latitude and longitude when we think of a ladder.
Notice the similar sounds in (LAtitude and
LAdder.)

  • The lines that measure north and south of the
equator are like the steps in a ladder. (Latitude)
