Observations
  • The members were getting accustomed to play a
proactive role and was inculcating a cooperate
    culture to help each other.
  • It served the purpose of current awareness
service and SDI service as well.
  • The technology failures of respective libraries
kept them away from the network until they
    restored the facility.
  • The members libraries without internet facilities
such CDI, IBSL were benefited to access internet
based contributions made by other members
  • New arrivals were not merely a bibliographic
information. In case of free copies the contact
and telephone, e-mail etc. was provided for the
    convenience of other members.
  • The members were alerted on weeding material and
complimentary copies, which has helped collection
    building of have-nots.

8
Observation - Contd..
  • The members were able to market their in-house
publications and also made use of their weeding
    material too.
  • Especially the member libraries were able to
access unpublished material such as reports,
seminar papers either print or electronic version
    no sooner it was out.
  • The libraries with large collections such as
CDI, NLDSC and USJ could have contributed much
    more in their capacity
  • In the context of New arrivals nearly 38 was
contributed by IPS and it could be considered as
a wake up callfor others to add the particular
publications to their collections as well.
  • Under the categories of Current information ,
Articles and Unpublished material the CBSL has
made the highest contribution to the network
    69,49 and 58 respectively
  • Similar networks could be set up among public
libraries, schools and other homogeneous group of
    libraries.
